Lettering is one part typography & one part drawing. Kinda like an Arnold Palmer, but with letters. A perfect combo, really.
Hand-lettering has become a huge trend in the last few years. I wouldn't have known to call it "hand-lettering" back then, but in middle school I was obsessed with letterforms. I remember writing my name super fancy on every piece of homework and doodling non-stop, even making custom name tags for my classmates' desks.
I was also obsessed with fonts — within the scope of what Microsoft Word and dafont.com could offer me, at least. Nevertheless, I was learning what a serif was and what styles of fonts looked decent together. Nowadays I use my love of type and sketching to create pieces that communicate hope and encouragement.
